Indicate "Jessica Woodruff" at Network for Good
Jessica Woodruff, a middle school language arts teacher and daughter of members of the African American Teaching Fellows community, died in March of this year (2011). Her family established this fund to support a Teaching Fellow who embodies the ideals that Jessica lived by. The following excerpt from one of Jessica’s letters to parents gives some insight into her teaching philosophy.
"I am a dedicated and active educator who believes that through education we can make tremendous positive change in our world. It is my hope that in my classroom students will gain inspiration and excitement while refining their skills to become successful members of our community.
In the classroom we will establish a community of respect where students feel comfortable sharing who they are, and work to become critical thinkers. It is my goal to follow students interests in the learning process and provide them with the tools they need to become empowered, thoughtful individuals who pursue their dreams while advocating for strong democratic principles in their communities and the world."
