Abigail Amoaka KAYSERAs a sophomore at UVA, Abigail was a Madison House volunteer at a Charlottesville school. That experience influenced her career path, moving her from the medical field to a passion for education.
She earned a BA in Psychology and graduated from the Curry School of Education with a Masters in Early Childhood and Developmental Risk in 2008. She is certified in pre K-3 grades and children with special needs. Abigail now teaches second grade at Jackson-Via Elementary School in Charlottesville. Born in Ghana, she came to the United States at the age of 16. She is a serious long distance runner, participating in a variety of races for charitable causes.
As an alumna of the AATF program, Abigail says, “I really enjoyed being in the program. My family lives in Northern Virginia, but the AATF gives you a sense of a little family. It’s a group of people that you can go to for help, especially when you’re teaching. We had a lot of social gatherings.”
